This tree roost has been used by Pipistrelle and Barbastelle bats, but currently one of our tree cams has discovered that Brown long-eared bats are making use of the feature at the moment. Tree roosts can be used by different bat species at different times of the year. This is one of the reasons we space our bat surveys on trees and buildings three weeks apart. This allows us to get a picture over a broader space of time. Just because a feature is used as a maternity roost in late spring and summer, doesn’t mean it won’t be used as a day roost in the autumn.
