This is one of the few know Leisler’s maternity roosts. 37 bats emerged on a count in June. It was only when a juvenile bat was found grounded that the roost was discovered, but the bats have likely been using it as their maternity roost for some years without anyone noticing. This again emphasises that unless you’re looking for them, you wouldn’t know there’s bats there. This is why we carry out preliminary bat roost surveys and emergence surveys, so we can protect and compensate for these roosts if necessary.
