Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA)

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) is the first stage of assessing a sites ecological value. The purpose of the assessment is to identify any potential habitats, protected species, and ecological constraints that a particular development or project may have on the surrounding environment. A PEA involves a desk study which researches any environmental data on the surrounding area.

A field survey or habitat survey is conducted to gather baseline information and inform planning applications. The final report will outline any findings and go on to recommend whether further detailed surveys are required and propose potential mitigation measures to compensate any effects the proposed project will have on the environment.
